The beach in winter

Sand and snow make for an unsuitable pair. Sand is summery and meant to shimmer under the sun. It’s destined to make you happy as you wiggle your toes in it. It’s designed to stick to a woman’s shapely calves as a sexy accessory. In winter, sand looks drab and unwelcoming.

The ocean, on the other hand, seems to come into its true self in winter. It’s powerful and raw, unadorned with sailboats and swimmers.

During my walk today, I had to keep a brisk pace just to stay warm. I realized how far I had walked when I turned around and had to face the wind. The piercing bluster was lifting the thoughts straight out of my head and twirling them in the air. A few of them landed on this blog post.
